Company Background

Winnebago Industries is the largest motorhome manufacturer in Australia.

The roots of Winnebago Industries go back to 1965, with the formation of Freeway. Bruce Binns, with the assistance of his wife Ruth, introduced the first Freeway slide-on camper to Australia. They progressed with the Freeway name producing motorhomes, caravans and tent trailers.

In 1977, FREEWAY CAMPER COMPANY name was changed to WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES, concentrating only on motorhomes and slide-ons. In 1988, Winnebago Industries moved from Smithfield, New South Wales to Wetherill Park. Over the course of 10 years, Winnebago Industries grew from one factory to four, concentrating solely on motorhomes. The range included Freeway Explorer (Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth), Wanderer and Chinook. Today Winnebago Industries range includes the motorhomes Classic, Longreach, Esperance,  Birdsville and Birdsville Elite, with the Menindee luxury motorhome and two new campervans – Diversion & Escape added in 2010 – more than 70 models in total. The latest 2011 releases are the new Esperance Premium A-Class, Ceduna and Eyre.

In 2000, Winnebago Industries purchased a 4 hectare  block of land at Emu Plains NSW. By January 2001, Winnebago Industries settled into their new premises. We at Winnebago Industries are committed to providing high quality, sleek style, efficient designs and the best value motorhomes you will find in Australia. Currently Winnebago Industries employs over 140 dedicated workers who produce approximately 600 Winnebago RVs per year.  We currently have fourteen dealers in our network throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The Australian RV Industry

Winnebago is a proud supporter of all aspects of the RV Industry and a member of the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia (RVMAA), the industry organisation tasked with ensuring that the motorhome industry is at the forefront of professionalism and quality.

The Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia promotes high quality production standards through self regulation and audits of manufacturing processes. Ongoing research and development plus industry training is actively promoted. The RVMAA believes a highly skilled technical and trades work force ensures that recreational vehicles continue being built to industry standards.

The RVMAA Seal is attached to all models manufactured by Association members. The seal provides owners with the assurance that their RV has been designed and built for Australian use and is manufactured in Australia in accordance with the Association’s code of practice and construction standards. The RVMAA Seal also provides owners with further assurance that it honours the Association’s code of ethics.

Winnebago has representatives on the main board of the RVMAA and on all subsidiary boards investigating technical and other matters regarding the RV Industry.
